Philip Baker Hall is an American actor. In film, Hall is known as both a leading man and a character actor earning great critical acclaim in the lead roles of Richard Nixon in Robert Altman's Secret Honor (1984), and Sydney Brown in Paul Thomas Anderson's Hard Eight (1996). Hall has received Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for his work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s films Boogie Nights (1997) and Magnolia (1999). Hall has also appeared in Martin Brest's Midnight Run (1988), Cameron Crowe's Say Anything (1989), Peter Weir's The Truman Show (1998), Anthony Minghella's The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Michael Mann's The Insider (1999), Lars Von Trier's Dogville (2005), David Fincher's Zodiac (2007), and Ben Affleck's Argo (2012).
