Review by Karl Williams

A truly awful, jaw-droppingly unfunny mess of a comedy, this fundamentally wrong-headed film is a cinematic question mark for stars Danny Glover and Joe Pesci. Perhaps it was believed that the stars' magic from the Lethal Weapon series would translate into a by-the-numbers buddy picture, but that's a poor premise if ever there was one. While it seems clear that the stars are intended to be regular guys (they're named "Gus" and "Joe," for heaven's sake), it appears that, as is so often the case in Hollywood projects created by out-of-touch show business types, the filmmakers firmly believe regular folks to be routinely mentally challenged. As with almost all of his previous films (the notable exception being the anomalous The Stone Boy, 1984), the touch of director Christopher Cain is the touch of creative death. An insulting, offensive, and thoroughly awful film that stands as a career low point for everyone involved, Gone Fishin' should never have been released in any format whatsoever and is best forgotten as soon as possible.
