Review by Hans J. Wollstein

In addition to Busby Berkeley's much vaunted production numbers, "Spin a Little Web of Dream" and "Broken Melody" -- the enjoyment on which depends largely on a modern viewer's tolerance of well-fed chorus girls and ostrich plumes -- Fashions of 1934 delivers some amusing asides from such eminent farceurs as William Powell, Hugh Herbert and Verree Teasdale, the latter this time using her famous hauteur for comedy purposes as the Grand Duchess Alix of Hoboken, NJ. Even Bette Davis, who sports a series of rather severe bleach-blond coiffures, joins in the spirit of things and some of the repartee remains highly commendable. That Fashions of 1934 is lightweight entertainment goes without saying but the old Warner Bros. spirit is always in evidence and the hour or so of nostalgic exuberance goes by painlessly.
