Spawn is an upcoming American superhero film written and directed by Todd McFarlane, in his directorial debut. It is based on the Image Comics character of the same name and is the second live-action film to focus on the character, acting as reboot to the 1997 film. Jamie Foxx is set to star as Al Simmons / Spawn, with Jeremy Renner as Twitch Williams.The film has been in development hell since 1998 where it was initially conceived as a sequel to the 1997 film starring Michael Jai White, with a primary focus on the detective characters Sam and Twitch, and with Spawn being planned to serve as a background character. After languishing in development hell, McFarlane completed his script in 2016 and partnered with Blumhouse Productions, who supported his intention to write and direct the film. Even though the film is still searching for a distributor, filming was expected to commence in February, but was eventually delayed to June 2019.
