Three years ago, Benedict Kirchner ran little Lena Stemmer over with his car. He was driving drunk at the time of the accident. Now he has fled Berlin and returned to his small home village Baching. Benedict is convinced that he can live permanently here in spite of the tragedy that occured. He wants to face up to his responsibilities. But not everyone in the village wants him back.
