Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Royal Journey is a filmed record of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip's 1951 tour of Canada. Setting this 52-minute film apart from other documentaries is the adroitness of the editing and the sheer excellence of the Eastmancolor photography. Especially attractive are the scenes of Quebec's lavish welcome for the Royal Couple (there are no separatists in this crowd). Likewise eye-pleasing are the shots of an RCMP parade in Saskatchewan and Elizabeth and Philip's visit to Niagara Falls. The film ends in Washington D.C., where the Princess and Prince are welcomed by a beaming President Truman. Royal Journey was released in the U.S. by United Artists, and in Canada by Columbia Pictures.
