This drama was based on the best-selling novel by Cynthia Stockley. Anna Q. Nilsson stars as Lady Flavia who, just hours after her wedding to Count Tyrecastle (Tully Marshall), finds out there is another woman (Rhea Mitchell), who has borne him a son. The Count and Flavia's brother shoot and kill each other, but she is accused of the murders. Flavia decides to throw herself in the Seine, but is stopped by a stranger, Lundi Druro (James Kirkwood). Druro takes her to dinner and tells her that he's returning to South Africa to marry the woman who is promised to him. Flavia decides to go there too, and disguises herself as Desmond, a young man. In South Africa she becomes Druro's secretary. He has discovered that his fiancée (Ruth Clifford) has married his partner Conrad Lyplatt (Joseph Kilgour) in his absence and he turns to drink (ponjola is the Kaffir word for whisky). When he becomes suicidal, Flavia saves his life. Lyplatt attacks Desmond/Flavia, and Druro comes to her aide. He hits Lyplatt, who falls against a stone and dies. Flavia is accused of the murder, and at the trial, she is discovered to be a woman. She is acquitted, and Druro, who has known for a long time who she really is, marries her.
