In contrast to the spectacles of his brother Cecil, William DeMille's directorial efforts tended more towards small, simple stories. Here, he takes the eternal triangle and instead of making it into a seamy sex story, he gives it a dose of humanity. Sylvia Hayes (Lois Wilson) is being courted by two men, Mark Sheridan (Jack Holt) and Allen Erskine (Conrad Nagel). Erskine wins her and Sheridan goes off on an African expedition. Five years pass, and although Sylvia and Allen are devoted to their little boy (Mickey Moore), the romance has gone out of their marriage. Sheridan returns from Africa and when he finds that Sylvia is unhappy, he tries to convince Allen to let her go. Allen's Aunt Betty (Fontaine LaRue) sees the foolishness of the situation and in a desperate attempt to get her nephew and his wife back together, she kidnaps their child. This has the desired effect, as Sylvia and Allen seek each other out for consolation. The couple reconcile, and once again Sheridan is left out in the cold.
