Film glossary definition for:
American Film Institute
Goals of the AFI address two different fronts. The organization was founded with the initial intent of preserving film in America as well as advancing research. It is located in Washington D.C. and has offices in New York and Los Angeles. With support from the National Endowment for the Arts the institute receives support from both the film and television industries. The institute continues in its pursuit of preserving old films, publishing a complete catalogue of theatrical enterprises and lending support to promising new research, filmmaking and film instruction. Due to alleged mismanagement of funds the institute has come under close scrutiny in recent years.
