Film glossary definition for:
Aleatory Technique
Aleatory is an adjective that means chance or luck and can be applied to any event that happens accordingly. In the production of a film an aleatory technique is applied when shots occur without a pre-staged plan in mind. It is used in documentaries so as not to convey rehearsed settings, images or dialogues and to achieve a realistic depiction of events. This was a device used by Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong in many of their films. (These productions were often unscripted as well.)
