From 1945 to 1991 Yugoslavia was a federal state, called the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) consisting of six republics: Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro and two autonomous regions - Vojvodina and Kosovo. In 1991-1992, four of the republics - Bosnia and Herzegovina (often referred to simply as Bosnia), Croatia, Macedonia, and Slovenia - declared themselves independent, leaving only Serbia and Montenegro unified. Though Serbia and Montenegro called themselves Federal Republic of Yugoslavia until 2003, the "Serbia and Montenegro" descriptor is used for the movies made after 1991. |
