Michael Wadleigh's stylish and intelligent horror film Wolfen was never a major box-office success, but it's gained a passionate cult following since its release in 1981, and the movie's admirers should be pleased with its treatment on DVD. Wolfen has been transferred to DVD in its original widescreen aspect ratio of 2.35:1; the film is letterboxed on regular televisions and has been enhanced for anamorphic playback on widescreen monitors. The film's original English-language stereo soundtrack is preserved in Dolby Digital Surround, while an alternate French language track (in mono) is also included. The film has been closed captioned in English, with optional subtitles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, and Bahasa. Several members of the cast have also recorded an alternate commentary track for the film, and Wolfen's original theatrical trailer is included as a bonus, along with biographical information on the filmmaker and several of his stars. |
