Irma La Douce
Description by Nick Dedina

Even though this cheeky sex comedy was a massive popular success in 1963, writer/director Billy Wilder always considered it an artistic misfire. While Wilder isn't incorrect, the MGM DVD release of Irma La Douce shows that the movie remains a fun showcase for its two stars, the peerless Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Filmed in widescreen Panavision, the beautiful Technicolor cinematography by Joseph La Shelle (who also did the lovely black-and-white lensing on Wilder's The Apartment) is showcased in an almost spotless anamorphic transfer. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono audio track is clean, well balanced, and free of hiss or any other background noise.
