The popular "Soundies," which were short music programs featuring popular stars at the peak of their careers, were produced between 1941 and 1947. In Harlem Roots, Vol. 4: Jivin' Time, Nat King Cole performs "Got a Penny, Benny," Dorothy Dandridge sings "Zoot Suit," Mabel Lee does "Chicken Shack Shuffle," the Musical Madcaps offer "Rhythm of the Rhythm Band," and Dallas Bartley is "Cryin' and Singin' the Blues." |
