In Memoriam
Richard Lewis, 1947-2024
Known for his paranoid but insightful stand-up comedy, Lewis also had a surprising number of film appearances (usually acting as a version of himself). Aside from his commentary in documentaries, his notable roles include the tense film Drunks, the underrated comedies Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Wagons East, and in the Oscar winning Leaving Las Vegas.

Jezebel was widely regarded as Warner Bros.' "compensation" to Bette Davis for her losing the opportunity to play Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind. Julie Marsden (Davis) is a headstrong Southern belle who loves fiancé Preston Dillard (Henry Fonda) but loses him when she makes a public spectacle of herself (to provoke envy in him). Bette Davis won an Academy Award for her portrayal of Julie; an additional Oscar went to Fay Bainter for her portrayal of the remonstrative Aunt Belle.
