Tall, dark-haired, and menacing, this character actor from Kentucky excelled in playing underworld characters, most famously Dope, the drug addict and one of the Hermit's band of chiselers in The Miracle Man (1919). Dumont also played Jerry the Gent, a member of Wallace Reid's gang, in Always Audacious (1920) and the Shadow, one of Wade Boteler's henchmen in the Katherine MacDonald melodrama Stranger Than Fiction (1921). He returned to the legitimate stages after that.
